Review Entries for Day Monday, 09 August 2010
Revell Research Systems celebrated its 25th birthday on 1st August 2010. Alastair Revell, who continues to manage the business on a day-to-day basis as the firm’s Managing Consultant, established the business in 1985.

Alastair Revell, who holds a number of senior appointments within the IT profession, including being a Member of Council and the Membership Director of the Institution of Analysts and Programmers, commented: “The last twenty-five years has been an interesting journey to say the least! I established the consultancy shortly after Microsoft produced Windows 1.0. While Windows is still ever-present, the computing world is very different indeed. It has changed beyond all recognition. The challenge for any consultancy providing advice on IT is distinguishing what is a fad from what is important. That is not always easy! We’ve done it so far, but we must work just as hard, if not harder, just to make sure we keep doing it!”

Alastair Revell established Revell Research Systems in August 1985 before he started his mathematics degree at the University of Birmingham a few months later. He graduated in 1988 and is both a Chartered IT Professional (CITP) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng). He is an elected member of BCS The Chartered Institute for IT’s South West Branch Committee and an appointed member of the same body’s national Membership Board Best Practice Committee. He also assesses applicants for registration as Chartered IT Professionals.

The consultancy celebrated its 21st birthday in 2006 and marked its coming of age by establishing an annual prize for the best Computing graduate at the University of Plymouth. The fifth recipient will be formally announced during the graduation ceremony on The Hoe in Plymouth on Wednesday, 22nd September 2010.
